If the owner does not repair
  • The city may repair sidewalks along public streets and charge the costs, under state law.
    § 9.08.030 · code text
    The city adopts by this reference the provisions of California Streets and Highways Code chapter 22, part 3, division 7 (commencing with section 5600) for the purpose of maintaining and repairing sidewalks fronting any portion of a public street and assessing the costs thereof.
Liability for injuries
  • Owners or tenants aware of a defect who do not repair or report it may be liable for damages.
    Applies: A dangerous or defective sidewalk that endangers people walking by.

    said person shall have recourse for such damages against any property owner or tenant having either actual or constructive notice of said dangerous and/or defective condition who fails to repair or report said defect in the manner set out in this section.

    Any person owning real property in the city shall repair any dangerous or defective condition lying in front of or along the side of said owner's property adjacent to any public street.
