If the owner does not repair
  • The city engineer has the repair made, and the owner must repay the city's necessary costs.
    Applies: Applies if the owner refuses or neglects to make the required repair.

    If any owner refuses or neglects to make such repair, reconstruction or improvement when required and directed in conformity with the provisions of this chapter, the city engineer shall cause such repair, reconstruction or improvement to be made, and any and all costs necessarily expended by the city in making such repair, reconstruction or improvement shall be reimbursed to the city as described in MMC § 8.55.100.
Liability for injuries
  • The owner is directly liable for resulting injury or property damage; the city is not liable.

Deadline to repair
  • The owner must start the required repair within 2 weeks.
    Applies: Counted from delivery of the city's notice to the owner.

Who must repair it
  • Owners of property next to or fronting the sidewalk must keep it safe and repair it at their own cost.
