Where is an emergency shelter allowed in Tiburon?

Find your lot's zone on the city zoning map, then read its row. Every status below was read from the Tiburon Municipal Code use tables (read October 2026). Base zones only. General information, not legal advice — check with the city before you apply.

Tiburon's code calls this use “Emergency shelters”. Each row links to the use table it comes from. A zone marked “see note” has a condition in the code, for example upper floors only or a larger lot.

• Standards for this use: TMC 16-40.060 (section not in packet).
• State law: State law (Gov. Code § 65583, SB 2) requires every city to allow emergency shelters by right in at least one zone.
• Not covered here: O, M, P, OS, P&R zones: use lists are prose (S6-S10) with no table; only child day-care in O is given as a cell. Under the not-listed rule other uses are not allowed there, but no cell was written for them.; Specific-use standards sections 16-40.020, 16-40.050, 16-40.060, 16-40.070, 16-52.040 are cited by the tables but are NOT in the packet; Table 2-1 'Specific Use Regulations' column says some uses need a CUP under those sections (S3 B).. Overlay zones and specific plans can also change the answer.
