Chapter 17.73 — OFF-SITE SUBDIVISION DIRECTIONAL SIGNS

§ 17.73.010. Intent.

This chapter is intended to provide for a more orderly display of off-site subdivision directional signs advertising various subdivisions throughout the city and to provide standard specifications for such signs.

§ 17.73.020. Sign specifications.

The design specifications for panel and sign structure design shall be in accordance with requirements established from time to time by resolution of the city council. (Ord. 1617 § 1, 1986)

§ 17.73.030. Location.

Locational requirements applicable to off-site subdivision directional signs shall be as follows:

  • A. The placement of each such sign structure shall be reviewed and approved by the planning director and city engineer.

  • B. All signs shall be placed on private property or city right-of-way with written consent of the property owner filed with the planning department or a city encroachment permit obtained and filed with the city engineer prior to the issuance of a sign permit.

  • C. No sign structure shall be located within 600 feet from any existing or previously approved sign site.

  • D. A sign location plan shall be prepared showing the site of each directional sign and shall be submitted to the planning director prior to the issuance of a sign permit.

§ 17.73.040. Permits.

It is unlawful for any person to erect, alter, permit or maintain a subdivision directional sign upon any property within the city without first obtaining a written off-site subdivision directional sign permit from the planning department as required by this chapter. Application for such permit shall be made on a form provided by the planning department. (Ord. 1617 § 1, 1986)

§ 17.73.050. General requirements.

The following regulations shall apply to all off-site subdivision directional signs:

  • A. Any such sign approved for a particular subdivision within the city shall not be changed to advertise another subdivision without approval of the planning director.

  • B. There shall be no additions, tag signs, streamers, devices, display boards or appurtenances added to the signs as originally approved. Further, no other directional signs may be used, such as posters or trailer signs.

  • C. No subdivision signs shall be erected advertising tracts or subdivisions located outside the city limits.

  • D. Said signs shall be allowed until a subdivision is sold out or for a period of 12 months, whichever first occurs. Extensions of the 12-month time limit may be approved by the planning director upon presentation of sufficient justification for the extension.

  • E. Said signs may contain directions to public buildings and facilities. (Ord. 1617 § 1, 1986)
